Житомирская земля — красивая, живописная часть северо-западной Украины. Ее площадь составляет 30 000 км2. Население достигает почти 1 500 000. Административный центр области — город Житомир, которому больше 11 веков. За тысячелетнюю историю появились такие города, как Коростень, Овруч, Малин.Благодаря преимуществу географического положения, область имеет красивая связь с Киевом, Львовом, Ужгородом, Одессой, Харьковом, Минском, Москвой, Санкт-Петербургом, а также со странами восточной и центральной Европы.Регион богатый на природные ресурсы. Есть декоративные каменья, мрамор, ценные каменья, сырье для металлургической промышленности, известняк, бурый уголь, торф.Житомирская область обеспечивает всю Украину обогащенным титаном, а также экспортирует его. Регион есть первым в Украине за лесными богатствами. Почти 1/3 территории покрытая лесами. В сельском хозяйстве по производству зерна и бобовых культур, хмеля и цикория, сахара, молока и мяса регион занимает первое место в стране.Промышленная база региональной экономики — это машиностроение и машиноинструментальные заводы. Регион имеет огромный объем производства керамической продукции.

Zhytomyr land is a beautiful, picturesque piece of north-western Ukraine.It’s area is about 30 000 km2.Population reaches almost 1 500 000.The administrative centre of the region, the city of Zhytomyr, is more than 11 centuries old.Thousand years of history have also such towns as Korosten, Ovruch, Malin.Due to its advantageous geographical position the region has good connections with Kyiv, Lviv, Uzhgorod, Odesa, Kharkiv, Minsk, Moscow, Saint- Petersburg, as well as with the countries of Eastern and Central Europe.The region is rich in natural resources.There are decorative stones, marble, gems, raw materials for steel and constructing industries, lime-stone, brown coal, peat among them.The Zhytomyr Region supplies the whole Ukraine with the titanium concentrate and exports it too.The region is the first in Ukraine for the wood.Almost one third of its territory is covered with forests and woods.In agriculture, along with the production of grain and beans, sugar beets, milk and meat production, the region is in the first place in the country in the production of hop, flax and chicory.The industrial basis of the regional economy are its machine building and machine tools factories.The region has great capacities in the industrial ceramics production.

Private sector is expanding more and more in the region’s industry.Foreign trade is an important part of the development of the region.

Zhytomyr is situated in the north of Ukraine on the Teterev river.Its total area is 6100 hectars.The city is divided into two districts, and its population is 292 000.Zhytomyr was founded, according to the local legend, in the 9th century.It is first mentioned in the chronicles under the year of 1240, when it was destroyed by the Mongols.It became a town in 1444.The chief architectural monuments are the Jesuit monastery, a Roman Catholic church (1744), the Assumption Church (1752), the Transfiguration Cathedral (1866-1874), the city hall.There are a lot of museums in the city, which are worth visiting.They are: a regional studies museum, lite- rary memorial museums, dedicated to M. Kotsiubynsky and V. Korolenko, and a memorial museum devoted to S. Koroliov.

Житомир расположенный на севера Украины на берегах реки Тетерев.Общая площадь города 6100 гектаров. Город делится на два района, население — 292 000 чел. Житомир был основанный, соответственно местным пересказам, в 9 веке. Впервые упоминается в летописи около 1240 года, когда он был разрушен монголами. В 1444 году он получил статус города. К архитектурным памяткам принадлежат Иезуитский монастырь, римско-католическая церковь (1744 г.), Успенский собор (1752 г.), Преображенский собор (1866-1874 г.), городская ратуша. В городе много музеев, которые следует посетить. Это краеведческий музей, литературные мемориальные музеи, посвященные М. Коцюбинскому и В. Короленку, и мемориальный музей, посвященный С. Королеву.

The city’s educational facilities include a pedagogical and an agricultural institute, a branch of the Kyiv Polytechnical University, 10 technical secondary schools.There are several scientific-research institutes.There are a lot of parks and public gardens in the city.Their area is 45 000 hectars.The Botanical Gardens of the agricultural institute is the place that is very popular among the people.The cultural facilities include a picture gallery, a puppet theatre, the Ukrainian Music and Drama Theatre, and a philharmonic society.Automobiles, synthetic-fabrics, tools, musical instruments are produced in Zhytomyr.Zhytomyr contacts with Hungarian city Mikhailovhrad.

 К образовательным учреждениям города принадлежат педагогический и сельскохозяйственный университеты, филиал Киевского политехнического университета, 10 техникумов.Есть несколько научно-исследовательских институтов.В городе много садов и скверов.Их площадь составляет 45 тыс. гектаров.Большой популярностью пользуется Ботанический сад сельхозуниверситета. В городе есть картинная галерея, кукольный театр, украинский музыкально-драматический театр и филармония. В Житомире производятся автомобили, синтетические ткани, инструменты, музыкальные инструменты.

Житомир поддерживает контакты с болгарским городом Михайлов-градом.
