Город, расположенный на слиянии рек Псел и Сумка, является областным центром. Занимает площадь 99 км2.Количество населения 275 400 жителей.Город разделен на два района.Первое упоминание о Суммах приходится на 1652 г.Городом они стали в 1780 г.Сначала Суммы принадлежали к Харьковской области, позднее была образована Сумская область и Суммы стали областным центром.Среди исторических памяток архитектуры следует назвать Собрание гильдии (17 век), Воскресенский собор (1702 г.), Преображенский собор (1776 г.), Ильинскую церковь (1851 г.), и колокольню.Суммы — современный город с множеством зеленые.В городе шесть парков.Возле Псла есть много красивых озер, где горожане очень любят отдыхать.Сейчас Суммы — один из основных промышленных и культурных центров северной Украины.Главными областями производства являются машиностроения, производство микроскопов, химическая промышленность (производственное объединение «Химпром»), легкая и пищевая промышленность.

A city situated at the confluence of the Psel and the Sumka rivers is a region’s centre.Its area is 99 km2.Its population is 275 400.The city is divided into two districts.The first mention of Sumy in the chronicles occurred in 1652.It became a town in 1780.At first it belonged to the Kharkiv Region, later the Sumy Region was founded, and Sumy became a region’s centre.The main architectural monuments are the guildhall (17th century), the Church of the Resurrection (1702), the Cathedral of the Transfiguration (1776), and St Elijah’s Church (1851), and the bell-tower (1908).Sumy is a modern city, and it is very green.There are six parks in the city.Near the Psel there are many beautiful lakes, where people like to rest very much.Today Sumy is one of the chief industrial and cultural centres in northern Ukraine.Its main industries are machine building, microscope production, the chemical industry (the Khimprom Manufacturing Consortium), the food and light industry.

The city’s enterprises produce compression machinery and pumps for nuclear and thermal power stations.Its cultural facilities include an art museum, a museum of decorative and applied art, a regional museum, a theatre of drama and musical comedy, and a young spectator’s theatre.

The city has 3 institutes, 9 technical secondary schools and some research institutes.

Городские предприятия вырабатывают компрессорное оборудование и насосы для атомных и тепловых электростанций.К культурным закладам принадлежат художественный музей, музей декоративного и прикладного искусства, краеведческий музей, театр драмы и музыкальной комедии, театр юного зрителя.В городе есть три института, 9 техникумов и несколько исследовательских институтов.

The Sumy Region is located in the north-eastern part of Ukraine.It borders on the Kursk, Bryansk and Belgorod Regions of Russia in the north and east, and on the Poltava and Kharkiv Regions of Ukraine in the north and southeast, on the Chernihiv Region of Ukraine in the west.The majority of population is Ukrainians.The Sumy Region was founded on the 10th of January 1939.There are 15 towns in this region.The Sumy Region is rich in mineral resources such as oil, gas, brown coal, salt and others.132 rivers flow through the territory of the Sumy Region.The largest of them are the Desna, the Psel, the Sula and the Vorskla.Thanks to favourable geographic conditions of the region there is an opportunity for harmonic development of it.Main gas and oil pipelines are laid through the territory of the region.As for the transport, loads and passengers are carried by railway and air.

Сумская область расположена в северо-восточной части Украины.Она граничит с Курской, Брянской и Белгородской областями на севере и востоке, Полтавской и Харьковской на севере и юго-восток, на западе — с Черниговской областью.Большинство населения составляют украинке.Сумская область была основана 10 января 1939 года.В регионе 15 мост.Сумская область богатое на полезные ископаемые, такие как нефть, газ, бурый уголь, соль и прочие.132 реки протекают территорией Сумскойобласти.Наибольшие реки — Десна, Псел, Сула и Ворскла.Благодаря благоприятным географическим условиям в регионе есть возможность гармонического развития.Главные газовые и нефтяные трубопроводы проходят через территорию региона.Что касается транспорта, то грузы и пассажиры перевозятся железной дорогой и воздушным путем.
